I would like to officially introduce you to Peaks-Kenny State Park....a gorgeously wonderful place we were just introduced to ourselves last week!
Some friends of ours who live up in that area have the added privilege of this place just being a scant few miles down the road. So when she asked me if I'd like to bring mom and the kids up for the day, we jumped at the idea!
There's this wonderful swimming beach, a playground, picnic tables and wooden bridges scattered a bit of everywhere....and the nicest, cleanest bathrooms I've seen yet at any state park!
To one side of the lake are these large rocks that the children loved splashing around....as well as some little fish darting about. Most of the time, the water up here in Maine is so frigid that (big wimp that I am!) I can hardly stick in my big toe! However, by now this water was actually quite tolerable...some even thought it was warm (I didn't go quite that far - but it was very nice)!
I also want to share with you this adorable swimsuit pattern that my friend made up for herself and her four girls! I was so impressed and so inspired that I came home and did a web search for more modest swimsuit ideas.
This site, ModestSwimm.com, has a nice overview. Two great links I found there were Fashionably Modest Patterns and Modest Swimwear Solutions.
The Modest-Swimwear.net site also provides custom-made as well as ready-made swimsuits for those who may not feel like they want to tackle sewing one themselves. I feel rather daunted at the prospects, too, but my friend assured me that it turned out to be very easy! We'll see...Mom? Where's my Mom? If I happen to find any free patterns online, I'll be sure to update you with the link. In the meantime, these others offer some great ideas!
As we continued to meander around this side of the lake, we discovered even more picnic tables tucked in under the trees and a great little hiking trail that my mom followed around....with blue stripes painted over rocks, etc. as trail-markers. All in all, it was one of those simply perfect summer days....that you relish forever...and wish that you only took the time and opportunity for more of them!
