Don't you just love that....from Wonder to Wisdom! I love it! Seems to me that it pretty perfectly sums up our highest pursuit in learning...all through life! As adults, we still wonder in the hopes that we may gain in widsom...and God's highest wisdom is certainly a most valued treasure...that still manages to elude me greatly, I'm afraid. But we never stop searching and wondering, do we?
I've recently discovered a great new site that's chock full of some lovely old-fashioned stories, inspiration, and ideas! It's called From Wonder...to Wisdom and was created by an Australian homeschool family with 11 children.
A few of my favorites that I've happened onto so far is the story The Crown of Success by A.L.O.E. (does anyone know what that stands for? Am I just totally dense...???) Well, it's a cute allegory about 4 children who are left in the care of Mr. Learning to furnish thier cottages (heads) from their Time-Money spent in the nearby Town of Education. Follow their adventures as they stumble their way through the Hill Puzzle, Bother Brook, and Trouble Lane...also encountering the pick-pocket thief, Procrastination, the dark, wily Pride, and frivolous Miss Folly!
NOTE: I think I've discovered what A.L.O.E means!
Another sweet one is Little Pillows or Good-Night Thoughts for the Little Ones by Frances Ridley Havergal. And they describe it as
"A month's worth of brief evening devotions for children, written by the well-known nineteenth-century hymn-writer."
But you must read first how Little Pillows came to be written...it's just too precious! It sets all my romantic notions completely a-flutter!
Her follow-up to Little Pillows is Morning Bells as described below:
"When you have read this little book, another will be ready for you, Morning Bells, —little chimes of Bible music to wake you up! Some of them will, I hope, ring in your ears all the day, and help you to go happily and brightly through it, following Jesus at every step."
This is only the tip of the iceberg...and I've only begun to peruse this site myself! Hope you'll enjoy it - as we are!
