With Fabric...from dull and drab to cheerful and fab!
Oh! The multitudinous projects, ideas, and functions of fabric...there's literally no end to it all! I get instantly google-eyed the minute I walk into a fabric store - or see those rows and rows of swatches hanging so temptingly in design stores! Who couldn't get lost for hours?
I started my own little pillow cover company many years ago - yes, long before Pottery Barn and Crate & Barrel had even thought about pillow covers! And I had patchwork pillows that weren't completely matchy-matchy but all coordinated. I used velvet and vintage fabrics and mixed really bright colors...it was such fun (especially being so, in my mind, cleverly and deviously cutting edge for a country bumpkin like me)!
But, like with so many other things in my life, my little pillow business got washed ashore amidst the haphazard shipwrecks of my life and has pretty much remained in that washed-up condition. However, I've so enjoyed all my pillow creations from that time forward and have used them in all sorts of creative contexts from a yacht...to Dallas suburban 50's ranch-style house with children...to the 40's beach bungalow in Florida....and now to Maine. Here are some of my Sewing and Knitting Creations!
My little flirts with entrepreneurial flings has also sharpened my senses in discovering what other like-minded, quirky, creative-types are doing out there - particularly in what fascinating, hip, or homey ways they apply the use of fabric. I have an entire 4" notebook devoted to this stuff which I will dust off and begin to share with you here. As I'm also rapidly unearthing some delightful web sites of stay-at-home moms and grandmoms, in particular, revving up their sewing machines and taking on the world of fabric with a vengeance. Here are some of my recent favorites...
