Dolls and Dollhouses...for those who never really grow up!

Our New House!
Dollhouses have always been a sheer delight and mild obsession for me! I'm not really much of a 'collector' type...but if I were to collect anything, it would definitely fall into the dollhouse category. And now I have 3 little girls to share my dollhouse obsession with...joy of joys! I have every excuse available to me to dive in with relish!
We began with the sturdier Pottery Barn dollhouse. After all, we do want our littlest of little ones to share in the enraptured enjoyment of dollhouse delights, too, without the frets and fears of breaking tiny things to bits and pieces...before the fun has even begun!
However, as of Christmas 2008, we purchased the true blue Victorian Dollhouse...Newport Style...to begin building and embellishing with a vengeance. Our only dilemma has been where on earth to put the thing once it's constructed. That's why it's still in its box. We will be finding a spot for it this winter, though. We've promised ourselves full-on dollhouse immersion for snowy days ahead! I'll also be posting adorable dollhouse links and ideas as we happen upon them, so stay tuned!

And our dollhouse...
This is the Pottery Barn dollhouse that we bought several years ago. I've done some embellishing...as you will see! I borrowed my designs extensively from Scandinavian motifs...green swirly ivy designs with blue dots and pink petaled flowers. I also painted alternating yellow and red tulips at the bottom of the exterior sides. As for the furniture, more flowers and curlicues. I really did up the floor lamp...another favorite!
Furnishings include knitted rugs and throws, red splattered metal pots and pans, baking items (I especially love the red handled rolling pin!), tiny blocks, a dollhouse for the Dollhouse, and china dolls. The furniture is the chunky kind that doesn't break easily. There's still so much more we can do...curtains, pillows, more painting...it's a never-ending project!
