We've been using our chicken tractor for over a week now...and the chickens seem to be loving it. Andrew put a sliding door on the back with a latch...that will probably be replaced with something else sooner or later...but it works for now...
As our tweaking of the tractor continues, I've just fastened a tarp over the top with clothespins to the chicken wire. We also have a gate at the front of the cage...
...with the same style latch as is on the other door of the house. We'll probably put another latch at the bottom of this little gate, too, so persistent little predators can't push through...
Over on this side, this string has been rigged up to pull open a small hinged door for the chickens to go in and out of their house. And we can shut it at night once they've gone into roost...
So far, so good...it seems! The tractor itself is pretty heavy to lug around...much more so than we thought it would be...so we may have to come up with a better wheel arrangement solution. But overall...with a bit more tweaking...this chicken tractor/egg mobile is working out beautifully! : D
